To run a class smoothly there are so many policies you must have in place. I have so many it is hard to keep track, but here are a few to get started and I will add more as I think about taking pictures of them!
Lunch/Attendance
Students place their lunch cards in either the hot/cold lunch bucket. I use the lunch cards to see who is absent. This makes it very easy to plug into powerschool the number of hot lunches for the day and the names of the absent students. |
Student Mailboxes
I keep them right by the door so that as soon as they walk in they grab their crayon box and choose their seat for the day. At the end of the day, they remove their mail and store their crayon box in the mailbox until morning. |
Direction Board
Certain projects have specific directions. I place the visual directions on the board so that when kids ask..."what are we doing?" or "what's next" all I have to do is point. Eventually they don't ask anymore they just look to the board. |
Bathroom Policy
I only allow one student out at a time. Students hand me their tag so I know who is gone. I wear the tag clipped to my shirt and hole punch it when they return. (this is for safety reasons. If there is an emergency I know exactly who is out of the room) They get 6 trips to the bathroom a week otherwise they take advantage of it. If they run out of their 6 trips and they really need to go, usually a friend is willing to give them a trip (hole punch their tag) |
