Classroom Rules
I designed these posters to go along with the "Explorer" theme in my classroom!
Rule 1 – Follow directions quickly
We are extremely busy and get a lot done throughout our day. We need to follow directions quickly to ensure our day runs smooth.
Rule 2 – Raise your hand for permission to speak
We will be sitting in the meeting area or at our seats for most of our lessons. This rule is very important for learning our manners and being respectful.
Rule 3 – Make smart choices
Our golden rule! For every thing we do, we need to keep this rule in mind.
Rule 4 – Try your absolute best
We will always be learning new and difficult things. No matter the task, we need to always give our best effort.
Rule 5 – Keep your dear teacher happy
Mrs. Partyka’s favorite rule! There are no loop holes with this rule. This rule encompasses all the others, and if you are doing your part as a member of our classroom community you will be following rule 5.

Expectations and Procedures
|
I have these small expectations posters around my whole room. They are all located next to wherever a student might need a visual.
For example: * How explorers Enter/Exit the room - posted right on the classroom door. * How Explorers Line up - posted next to the location the line leader stands when we get ready to leave the room as a class. |
PBIS Posters
I designed a set of posters for our building as we transitioned to implementing a PBIS structure in our building.
"Emerald Pride" we say this pledge as a whole building each morning over the intercom during morning announcements.
"Explorer Expectations" I designed a different poster for each of the 9 locations we were focusing on for our behavior matrix (bus, hallway, bathroom, playground, cafeteria, assembly (gym), computer lab, library, and classroom)

Classroom Management
Students Making Smart Choices
When I see a student display a particular smart choice in the classroom I let them know exactly what I liked about what they did and ask them to hole punch their "smart choice card". Once their ticket is full they can choose from a variety of different rewards and they level up on our "Super Improver" wall.
The pocket chart holds all their cards and the reward cards. Once a student earns a reward they place the specific reward card they choose in their pocket. Once they receive their reward the reward card goes back above so someone else may choose that one.
Daily Scoreboard
I never use the same scoreboard twice in a year. I have tons of themed scoreboards and puzzle. Off the top of my head I know I have these.... (I have at least a dozen, but they slip my mind at the moment!)
Apple - basket Vase - flower Nest - bird eggs Seashells - sand castle Leaves - tree Snowflakes - igloo |
We play the scoreboard game every single day!
How it works: Every time the class does something that makes me happy (quick transition, great lesson, focus, followed rules, kindness...ect.) they get a smiley tally. Every time the class does something I don't like (slow transition, loud during work or lesson, ect.) they get a frowny tally. For every smiley we earn an apple in the basket, every frowny takes an apple out. The scoreboard resets each day, but any apples earned do remain in the basket. Some times it may take us a few days to fill the basket. When the basket is full we put a puzzle piece on the puzzle and have a super short (5 minute) celebration. When our puzzle is complete we earn a super big whole class celebration! |

Classroom Misbehavior Process
This document outlines how I manage inappropriate behaviors in my classroom. |
Organization
Pencil Holders - I use good old fashioned toothbrush holders! Each Monday students receive 5 sharp pencils. They use their pencils all week and turn it in on Friday. If all 5 are still there (even if dull or broken) they get a pencil prize. If a pencil is missing they get a new one. I sharpen the pencils and return them on Monday with either an Opps... ticket, or the pencil prize.

I would love to document all of the awesome ways I keep my classroom organized, and eventually I hope to photograph and describe them all for you. But at least this is a start!
|
I use clothes pins on my work turn in baskets. Each student in my class is assigned a number. Every time they turn in a paper assignment they clip their number to it. It has been a huge time saver to see who has unfinished work every single day, and has saved my sanity for no-name papers!

Bucket Fillers!!
We set goals in our class and we work hard each day towards the goal we set. We begin by choosing a place in our building we want to focus on: cafeteria, hallway, playground, classroom, bathroom, ect. Then we think about what our goal should be. We always have a lenghy discussion about what behaviors we need to work on, and that our goal should be set for something we want to get better at. Once we narrow down what we want to focus on we think about specific actions each of us can do so that collectively as a class we are working towards our goal. After we have set our goal we determine how many pom poms we must earn before we consider that goal successfully achieved. At the end of each day during our afternoon meeting we discuss how many pom poms we earned for our bucket that day so we can have an idea about how we are progressing towards our goal. Once we achieve our goal we hold a classroom reward! There are many whole class reward options. |
